Isle of Islay

Whisky, Whisky and more than just Whisky!

Home to (almost) 12 single malt distilleries Islay is a whisky lover’s dream.

Most Islay Whisky has a distinctly smoky and peated profile with big names like Bowmore, Lagavulin, Laphroaig and Ardbeg. The Ardbeg Supernova and Bruichladdich Octomore ranges go one step further giving you the chance to taste super-heavily peated expressions. Caol Ila is one of ‘The Four Corners of Scotland’ Johnnie Walker whisky distilleries. Newer additions to the whisky scene include the farm based Kilchoman and Ardnahoe a wholly family-owned distillery. And of course the recently re-awakened Port Ellen.

Prefer Unpeated Whisky? Certainly. Specifically, there’s Bruichladdich Distillery for the wonderful ‘Classic Laddie’ range.

If Whisky isn’t really your thing, there’s plenty to do here on the ‘Queen of the Hebrides’. With beautiful beaches, charming villages and ancient historical sites all around, including the unusual Round Church in Bowmore, the ruins of Finlaggan Castle and the ruin of Kildalton Chapel and its early Christian Cross some of the options that await.
