Located in the heart of central Scotland, Perthshire really has it all. The scenic landscape offers an excellent choice of outdoor activities from water sports and country sports to cycling and hiking. For golfers there are many golf courses and of course with Tasting Scotland’s founder Brenda Anderson having worked at the famous 5-star Gleneagles for many years a round on the Ryder Cup 2014 or Solheim Cup 2019 course can be arranged if wished!
There’s nothing quite like the drive up the beautiful lime tree avenue of Blair Castle and Gardens home of the Atholl family for over seven centuries. We can arrange a visit where you’ll see this 30-room home and the family history brought to life against a backdrop of fine 18th century interiors and Scots Baronial architecture.
Nearby ‘The Hermitage’, a magical forest designed as a pleasure ground in the 18th century for the local Dukes of Atholl is fabulous for a walk. Look up at the Douglas fir trees that tower over the paths leading to the roaring Black Linn Falls. Overlooking the waterfall is the picturesque Ossian’s Hall (or folly) built in 1757 as the focal point to create an illusion of shock, surprise and amazement, decorated with mirrors, sliding panels and paintings.
Scone Palace once the crowning place of Scottish monarchs and historic home of the Stone of Destiny/Scone is hard to beat. There are no formal gardens, but one hundred acres of tranquil woodland gardens to explore including an area dedicated to the man who brought the Douglas Fir to Scotland. Here nature and wildlife sit quietly side by side.
