The largest and probably the most famous of Scotland’s islands, Skye is an island of many contrasts. From the imposing Cuillin Mountain Range, the spectacular Trotternish Peninsula with wonderful views of dramatic pinnacles the ‘Old Man of Storr’, Kilt Rock and The Quiraing, the island capital Portree with its attractive harbour and The Sleat Peninsula in the south of the island, often referred to as ‘The garden of Skye’.
Expect cosy, traditional pubs serving Scottish specialties and casual fine dining restaurants with top class Michelin star and AA Rosette winning chefs offering a seat at their kitchen table. Like many island chefs they are passionate about sourcing ingredients locally and responsibly. Game when in season and wild foraged food are combined as nature intended and you can expect fresh, local seafood landed from the cool island waters. As well as being a real food lover’s island complete with a few whisky distilleries it has a rich local art and craft scene, plenty of places to walk or hike, see wildlife in their natural habitat or enjoy a cultural visit to a castle with gardens. The Museum of Island Life shows how crofters lived and worked and provides a fascinating insight into both the people and the place.
