Charming, Golfer’s paradise and a lot more!
The most famous town in the region of Fife is St Andrews. It’s easy to imagine living in the medieval period for it’s mostly unchanged. Walk down old cobbled market streets to Scotland’s first University built in 1413. Look up at the impressive ruins of St Andrews Cathedral. Visit the Castle ruin on the edge of the North Sea, now a ruin but once a luxury residence for the Bishops of Scotland. Oh, to be a fly on the wall!
As the ‘Home of Golf’ it’s a place to enjoy a round or two if you’re a fan. For others, a walk on the West Sands beach clears the mind and enriches the soul. There are stylish shops, many of them independently owned and some great local bars and restaurants too.
Outlander has many scenes filmed in the picturesque towns of Fife, including Culross and Falkland. The Palace which can be visited and gives a glimpse of royal life in what was the medieval equivalent of Balmoral Castle.
