    This 5-Day North Coast 500 tour loop from Glasgow or Edinburgh joins the NC500 at the official start of Inverness. Heading route covers the east and some of the north coastal route. It’s the perfect multi-day tour if you’re a little short of time but want that NC500 itch scratched.

    Rugged coastlines, white-sand beaches, historic sites, archaeology, remnants of Pictish and Viking occupation, the most northern point in mainland Britain, geology, castles, old fishing villages, wildlife and all the cultural east coast charm you could wish for.

    Day 1Glasgow/Edinburgh to Dornoch

    • Hike/walk in the Hermitage Forest / Ossians Cave and the Black Linn Falls
    • Blair Castle & Gardens  The spectacular home of the Atholl family for over seven centuries. (Open April – October). 
    • Scone Palace & Gardens  Home of the Earls of Mansfield, most famous as once the  Crowning Place of Scottish Kings.
    • Perth Museum  Highlighting 10,000 years of Scottish and world history. See The Stone of Destiny; an ancient symbol of Scotland.
    • Inverness 

    Overnight: Dornoch

    Day 2Dornoch to Wick

    Options: 

    • Explore the seaside town of Dornoch. Visit Dornoch Cathedral. 
    • Tour Dunrobin Castle  Seat of Clan Sutherland with Its spectacular gardens.  (Open April – October).
    • Visit Brora and the Carn Liath Broch, an easily accessible Iron Age drystone structure located just south of the village.
    • Whaligoe Steps: A dramatic descent of 365 man-made steps to a historic natural harbour.
    • Take the 500 metre hike/walk to explore the dramatic ruins of Castle Sinclair Girnigoe. 

    Overnight:  Wick

    Day 3Wick to Tongue

    Options: 

    • Take a short walk to the Stacks of Duncansby to see these iconic sea stacks and for views of the Orkney islands.  
    • Stop at John o’ Groats for the iconic signpost photo!  
    • Stop at Dunnet Head, the most northerly point of mainland Britain for stunning cliff views. 
    • Visit the Castle and Gardens of Mey (former home to King Charles’ Grandmother). (Open May – September (limited July/August)).

    Overnight:  Tongue

    Day 4Inverness bound

    Options: 

    • Hike/walk at the Falls of Shin (look for the ‘salmon leaping’ in late summer) 
    • Glenmorangie or Singleton Malt Whisky Distillery Tour & Tasting
    • Beauly / Priory
    • Inverness for a walk along the River Ness
    • Inverness Castle  Take a step into the magic of the Highlands through interactive installations, immersive exhibitions and hands-on tech based activities.

    Day 5Inverness to Glasgow/Edinburgh
