So big you can see it from space!
Step out on any part of your journey straight down from Inverness to Fort William and you’ll be standing on ‘The Great Glen’, so big that you can actually see it from space. This ancient geological fault dates back some 380 million years. A valley of steep-sided mountains and lochs (with Loch Ness being the biggest at 23 miles long) it’s an area of special beauty (and possibly the odd monster!).
A stop at Urquhart Castle lets you see where one of Scotland’s largest former royal castles stood. Raided on several occasions by the MacDonalds (just wait until you see their takeaway menu!), it became the ruin that it is today. We can arrange a Private Cruise on Loch Ness if wished.
You may also spot canal boats as they cut down through the Great Glen following the 60-mile ‘Caledonian Canal’ route from Inverness towards Corpach close to Fort William with its succession of 29 locks. A masterpiece of engineering by Thomas Telford and a great place to enjoy a walk.
